about

Although "Expect the Unexpected" is the oldest song on this album, this song gets the prize for having the oldest music and concept. The lyrics were re-written in 2014, but the music is actually from a song I wrote back in 1990 for Ariel's never finished 3rd album.

The original song had the same concept and, believe it or not, the same title. It was written from a more direct "gospel" standpoint, whereas this one is a little more ambiguous. This is another love song that could be addressed to a human or to God. In both cases, I don't deserve the relationships that I have. I have been blessed beyond anything than I could have ever done on my own. For that, I am eternally grateful.

lyrics

Every moment of every day,
I’m reminded of just how good you’ve been to me.
There are no mere words I can say
to describe just how good you’ve been to me.

You’re more than a friend, more than someone that I love.
(You’re everything to me)
You’re better than anything that I can think of.
You’ve been so good to me.

I’m really not worth your time,
but you still love me. That’s how good you’ve been to me.
And I don’t give you enough of mine
but you forgive me. That’s how good you are to me.

You’re more than I am, more than I could ever be.
(You’re so much better than me)
You’ve given your everything so I can see
that you’ve been so good to me.

CHORUS: You have been so good to me
You have been so good to me
You have been so good to me
You have been so good to me

BRIDGE: I can never measure up to who you are
But I don’t have to measure up, because of who you are.
I can never measure up to who you are
But I don’t have to measure up, because of who you are.
You’re so good.
