about

The words to this song were written on a napkin at Chick-Fil-A while I was watching my children play on the playground. At the time, I was busy dealing with all sorts of “real-life, grown-up” stuff and I was in an incredibly foul mood as took my daughters out to dinner (the wife was out of town for the weekend, which added to my mood).

I love spending time with my girls, and sitting down to dinner with them that night raised my spirits considerably. As they left the table to go out to the playground, I began to think about their future and this world that they have to grow up in. What a cold, cruel place this is!

This song is just an expression of frustration at this place that we live in. This world is tough, especially if you choose to face it alone. It’s important to have people you can turn to when things get hard. If you don’t have anyone like that, it can be very confusing, can’t it?

lyrics

I find myself living
in days of confusion
In an age when nobody understands
I can't help but wonder
What it is that I need to do
What I need in my life
to make me a better man

CHORUS: I need direction
I need somebody to show me the way
I need solutions
to the problems in my life
I need some answers,
the kind that can only come from you
Only you can save me
Please help me
I'm so tired of being confused

I find myself walking
through a minefield
but it's a place of my own design
Every step I take
brings me closer to danger
I can't go through this alone
please give me a sign

CHORUS

BRIDGE: These days, it's hard to tell
an enemy from a friend
It's hard to put my trust in anyone
But I know that I trust you
To stay with me to the end
You are by my side
until everything is done

One of these days, I'm gonna go
and wander away too far
and end up way past where I need to be
That's when I'll need someone
Someone who can pull me back
That's when you'll hear me
Calling out to you
I can't go through this alone
I've gotta have you
Please help me
I'm so tired of being confused.
