Complete your a cappella collection with the 2 CDs that started it all for Eric! This exclusive bundle gives you Eric's debut CD, Refuge, and his best-selling second CD, The Calling, for one convenient low price!
On "Refuge" back in 2001, I concluded the CD with a little lullaby that I had written for my daughter, Cassidy ("Little Angel"). As part of the rhythm track, I had sampled her heartbeat the night before she was born and then built the song around it. It worked out beautifully and everyone who has heard the song seems really pleased with it.
However, I inadvertently created a problem for myself, as a year after "Refuge" came out, I became a father for the second time. Suddenly, I realized that I needed to write another new song for my other daughter, Hayley. Much easier said than done, but I managed.
I knew going into this that I couldn't do the heartbeat thing again, because that was more Cassidy's thing. So what unique element could I add to this song that would make it Hayley's special song? Oddly enough, my answer came from Hayley herself, as she was walking around the house singing "Jesus yoves me" (that's "Jesus loves me", for those of you who don't speak toddler!). I called her into the studio, hit the "record" button when she wasn't looking, and the intro to this song was born. She even tagged it with a final "Amen" for that special touch.
You know, I believe that this is how God looks at us. We are his children, who will never be too grown up for his love. He will always love us, no matter what we do or where we go. Nothing on earth can separate us from his love.
lyrics
I'm trying to find the words to say
to tell my love for you.
But words can never express the way I feel.
As you grow up, I'll always be right here.
When you feel alone, remember I'm standing near.
Since you came into my life, you've changed me
in ways you'll never know.
My world is a better place because you're here.
As time goes by and the years come and go,
there's one thing you'll never outgrow…
Chorus: You are still a child in my eyes.
You still have my hand to guide you.
I'm so glad you're in my life.
You will never be too grown up for me to love you.
Repeat Chorus
